US: Wisconsin 'HIV exposure' teen interviewed on TV from jail

It couldn't happen in the UK, but amazingly, the 18 year-old man accused of HIV exposure was interviewed for local TV from his prison cell. In my previous posting I had been under the impression that he had been released on bail, but this was obviously not the case.

The TV station not only showed the interview during a newscast, but made the entire interview – complete with his lawyer advising him whether or not to answer some of the (rather stupid) questions – from the TV journalist.

The story from Milkwaukee NBC affiliate TMJ4 is below. Click on this link for the raw interview footage.

Exclusive: Jailhouse Interview With Teen Accused In HIV Case
by Ty Milburn

MILWAUKEE - Rick Allen Brown is in jail. He's charged with reckless endangerment of safety.
Brown is accused of having sexual contact with a South Milwaukee High School classmate, but not telling her he was HIV positive.

In an exclusive jailhouse interview with TODAY'S TMJ4, Brown says he is an innocent man. He says he did not have sex with anyone since becoming HIV positive.

"I gave her a kiss on the cheek and she left my house," Brown said. "That's all I did."

"I'm not a monster walking around with a loaded gun," Brown said. "I didn't have sex with those girls. I don't partake in that type of activity anymore because of the simple fact I am HIV positive."

The 18-year-old woman tells a different story. According to a criminal complaint, she had unprotected sex with Brown three times. She says she didn't know Brown had HIV until months later when his aunt told her.

Brown's lawyer says this is a case of 'he said, she said.' He claims there is no physical evidence.

"Just because someone says it happened doesn't mean it did," Brown said.
